Bath houses by the ocean are often called ‘cold bath houses’ and allow people to comfortably swim in the ocean, and are also often furnished with a sauna, relax and a restaurant. Cold bath houses became popular in Sweden in the middle of the 19th century and serve as health spas

Cold bath house

One of the more popular cold bath houses in Sweden lies in Varberg. The location’s first cold bath house was built in the 1820s as a floating pool. Fixed structures arrived in the 1850s and a second inception was built towards the end of the century. The current bath house dates back to the early 20th century.
